Repairing Cork Floors

Scratches and scuff marks.

Wax floors – Minor scratches and scuff marks can be removed by buffing the floor with a white buff pad and the machine set on a low rpm. For deeper scratches and hard to remove scuff marks, you might have to upgrade to a red pad. Note: you do not have to apply wax when buffing the floor. If scratches are still evident, then re apply paste wax to the affected area. Note: you do not have to refinish the entire floor, merely the damaged area.

Polyurethane floors- Minor scratches and scuff marks can be removed by buffing the floor. Remember to sweep the floor first, as dirt particles will scratch the floor finish. If buffing does not remove the scratches, one must refinish the floor. This entails lightly abrading the floor prior to re application of urethane finish. Note that when refinishing a polyurethane surface, the whole floor needs to be refinished, and this should ideally be done by a professional. Also some cork veneer floors cannot be sanded, so check the manufacturers specifications fisrt.
