Hardwood flooring care and maintenance

Routine care

Vacuum or sweep your floor clean once a week, or more if needed. The vacuum head must be brush or felt. do not use vacuums with beater bars or hard heads. A good quality dust mop is also highly recommended to eliminate finer particles of grit and dirt that can act like sandpaper on a hardwood floor.

Spills and tracked in dirt should be cleaned immediately. Using specific (always use manufacturers recommended products) hardwood floor cleaning products, lightly apply to the surface and wipe with a sponge or mop or a soft cloth. excess cleaner that does not evaporate immediately should be dried with a clean towel. For difficult use manufacture recommended spot cleaners.

Apply manufacturer recommended protective top dressings. See manufacturers specifications for frequency and method of application. When possible, apply with the grain.

Wipe up spills immediately

Use door mats and throw rugs outside room entrances and in front of kitchen sink and refrigerator to help keep dirt and grit off your floor, and to prevent damage and excessive wear.

Place runners and area rugs along high traffic areas.

Move heavy appliances and furniture by using a dolly rolled over plywood or pressed board.

Use furniture leg protector pads under all furniture legs.

Don't allow water to stand on your floor for any length of time.
