Laminate moldings are usually sold per piece with sizes ranging from 3’-8’. Their prices vary depending on type and manufacturer.
The majority of manufacturers supply all required trims and moldings required for your flooring installation. Many retailers sell generic, unbranded, moldings that are cheaper than the moldings supplied by the flooring manufacturers. These trims and moldings are designed with the same pattern and color to match each floor model. Many retailers sell generic moldings, available in a wide rage of colors, which are cheaper than the moldings supplied by the flooring manufacturers, however keep in mind that in most cases they will not exactly match your floor color or style.
Most laminate floor moldings require a u-track, which either comes packaged with the moldings or is sold separately. The u-track is fixed to the sub-floor using either adhesive or nails.
When installing trims and moldings, it is important to leave an expansion gap of 3/8' (10mm). Laminate flooring is a porous material and will expand and contract due to changes in the room temperature. The expansion gap gives the floor space to expand and will prevent the floor from buckling.
Quarter round is used to cover the expansion gap between the laminate floor and the wall around the perimeter of the room. It is only required if there is no baseboard, but can also be used in conjunction with baseboard, thus creating a nice additional feature. From a design perspective it is often nicer to coordinate your quarter round with the color of your baseboard instead of the floor.
Bridges the gap between two uneven surfaces, reducing from laminate to thinner floor covering products such as vinyl and bare concrete.
Used to provide a smooth transition from the laminate flooring surface to adjacent carpet installations, sliding glass doors, floor to ceiling windows, or bathtub and shower surrounds.
Used to bridge the expansion area required between laminate floors, from one room to another, or as a transition between laminate flooring and a floor of equal height.
Used to provide a secure transition from the flooring surface while allowing the floating flooring system to expand and contract freely at the step-down location.
Used to provide an eye-pleasing transition from the laminate floating flooring surface to the adjacent wall while covering the required 5/16' expansion allowance along perimeter walls
